As promised, here's the BILLBOARD HOT 100 for the last week of August 1984. 84 was the greatest year ever in the history of pop music, and this week back in 84 was chock full of classics and great lost hits. Enjoy this countdown, which you can listen to until next month, when we'll have the BILLBOARD HOT 100 for the last week of September 1985!
Bonnie Tyler won our first Battle, beating Laura Branigan 62% to 38%. Entering the ring to challenge Bonnie's Total Eclipse of the Heart is Bananarama with their classic Venus. You have until next Friday to vote for your favorite. Can Bonnie make it two weeks in a row, or will her reign be ended?
We all love 80's music, but what if you had to choose between 80's classics? Well now you do! Each week you'll have to choose between two favorites, and the winner will take on a new challenger the following week. Entering the ring this week is Laura Branigan's Gloria duking it out with Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse Of The Heart.. Vote for your favorite, and come back next Saturday when the winner will battle it our with another classic!
The countdowns are back! Each month will feature two countdowns, both centered on the same year. There will be one Billboard Hot 100 countdown, and one "greatest of the year" countdown. For example, this month we're looking at 1984 with a countdown of the greatest lost hits of that year, and during the last weekend of August we'll have the Billboard Hot 100 countdown of the last week of August 84. In September we'll be doing 1985, with another Billboard Hot 100 countdown, and another "greatest" countdown, possibly of lost hits, or maybe the greatest one hit wonders of 85, or the greatest movie songs of 85. Enjoy this countdown of the greatest lost hits of 84, and check back in two weeks for the Snicks Radio Hot 100 Countdown!
THE TOP TEN
1. Dennis DeYoung - Desert Moon - The Styx frontman went solo in 84, and hit #10 with Desert Moon. This brings back such sweet memories of fall 84, and it's a shame you never hear it on any so-called 80's nostalgia shows. It's my favorite lost hit of 84.
2. Van Stephenson - Modern Day Delilah - peaking at #22, this irresistible slice of campiness is a perfect 80's song.
3. Alan Parsons Project - Prime Time - Their final top forty hit peaked at #34, and I love its creepiness.
4. Melissa Manchester - Thief of Hearts - Title song from the soft core classic, it peaked at a shocking #87.
5. Romeo Void - A Girl In Trouble - Peaking at #35, it was their only top forty hit.
6. Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes & James Ingram - What About Me - One of the more interesting pop collaborations, it peaked at #15 ... and almost no one remembers it.
7. Toni Basil - Over My Head - There was no way Toni could scale the heights she did with 82's #1 Mickey, but I was still surprised this attempt peaked at #80.
8. Laura Branigan - The Lucky One - second single from Laura's biggest selling album Self Control, it peaked at #20.
9. Barbra Streisand - Left in The Dark - Babs turned to Jim Steinman and tried to pull off a Bonnie Tyler with this camp-fest, but it only peaked at #50.
10. Face To Face - 10,9,8 - Peaking at #38, this pop nugget had hooks galore.
